Mobile Signal Troubleshooting

Mobile connectivity can be affected by local coverage, a carrier outage, SIM or eSIM settings, account status, device configuration or the phone itself. Begin with checks that do not erase personal data.

Phone says no service or no signal

  1. Check whether the problem happens in one location or several locations.
  2. Turn airplane mode on briefly, then turn it off and allow the phone to reconnect.
  3. Restart the phone and check whether your carrier reports an outage.
  4. Check that the SIM is active and correctly seated if your device uses a physical SIM.

Mobile data is not working

Confirm mobile data is enabled, your plan is active and the device has not reached a data limit. If calls work but data does not, review the carrier’s official APN instructions before changing network settings. The exact menus differ between Android and iPhone.

SIM not detected

For a physical SIM, power off the device before reseating the card and inspect it for visible damage. For eSIM, check the mobile plan in settings and contact your carrier before removing a plan, since reactivation may require carrier support.

Hotspot will not connect

  • Confirm the hotspot is enabled and the phone has a working mobile data connection.
  • Check the hotspot password and whether the device limit has been reached.
  • Keep both devices close together and disable hotspot battery restrictions temporarily if needed.

If signal remains absent in multiple locations, contact your carrier to check coverage, account status and SIM provisioning. For home wireless problems, see Wi-Fi and internet troubleshooting.
